How many stitches would I have to cast on for a hat? I'm trying to knit an adults hat, unfortunately I've completely forgotten how many stitches to cast on. I'm using 4mm needles, and 50g/184yards yarn. I thought it would be about 80 stitches, but that doesn't seem like enough? I'm planning to knit a small ribbed band of about 3 cm, and then use purl stitch.
How many stitches do I cast on for a knitting stitch pattern? Say a pattern says to cast on a multiple of 2 stitches + 3 (it would be 5), but say you want double or triple the pattern size, how would you do that? Every time I try, I always seem to have one or two stitches more or less then I need and the pattern always winds up looking wrong. Can anyone tell me how to do this in a simple, non-confusing way?
How to cast on new stitches after moving them onto a stitch holder? I am knitting a baby's sweater by sections - I have just finished the back piece, and the pattern says to slip all those stitches onto a stitch holder. For the next section (left front) it says cast on 27 stitches - but my working yarn is still attached to those stitches on the stitch holder. Do I cut the yarn on the stitch holders in order to cast on new stitches to my needles? or just keep working onto my needles?

What are some good crochet stitches for the middle of a baby blanket? I'm using single crochet stitches, half double crochet stitches, and the spike stitch for the first 8 rows of each side of the blanket. I really like the popcorn stitch, but mine never looks the way it's supposed to. Any ideas? Thanks!
How long does it take for dissolveable stitches to dissolve? I had a baby 4 weeks ago now, and was stitched up using dissolveable stitches. I assumed they would have been gone by now, but they are not. Does anybody know how long these types of stitches last down there and if they can cause infection if they do not dissolve? I can actually see the stitches there, as there are a couple that are about a cm long hanging out. Sometimes if I'm sitting down on the ground with my feet underneath me and move around, I will catch a stitch and pull it. I just looked there for the first time yesterday and noticed them. I would have assumed they'd be gone by now.
How many stitches do you cast on when ribbing a scarf? What did they do before dissolvable stitches were created? I am curious to any Dr.s and Veterinarians out there. Before dissolvable stitches were created... how did they go about doing internal sugury requiring internal stitches? Did they have to re open the patient to remove the stitches after the surgury healed? Or did the non dissolvable stitches remain in the body perminantly? If so, how did this not cause people and animals to get an infection/reaction to the foreign body? Or did the body just get used to it? I would love this information as I am intrigued by it all!

Should stitches have caused pain in my thumb or is it normal for stitches to hit a nerve? I cut my thumb and got 4 stitches. The cut didn't hurt before the stitches and I was able to move my thumb normally. Once teh stitches were in it started to hurt. After 5 days I had them taken out and the guy taking the stitches out said that one of them was in a nerve (because it hurt more than anything getting it out). Now, 13 days after the stitches went in, it is still tender and not as usable as it should be.

Does anyone have trouble with stitches not sliding on Bates knitting needle? I am using size 15 cables, using two strands of baby yarn. I am not knitting tightly, but the stitches don't slide well at all. I am fighting the work all the way! These are size 15 Silvalume needles. Is it possible for the stitches (meltable) to dissolve one day after having 2 teeth extracted? I just had 2 teeth extracted yesterday around 11:45 and today I noticed after I had eaten something that the stitches have already melted away. Is this normal or should I contact my dentist and go back for a followup. I do not feel a hole there or see one anymore. For XO - It didn't really hurt. The only thing that you feel is a little pressure. If your dentist knows what he is doing then you'll be fine. Just tell him your concerns and he will listen to you. More than likely they will numb you up with some numbing gell and then they will shoot you up with some novacane (sp). You'll be fine. If you have any more questions feel free to e-mail me! Good Luck at the dentist!
